Create and share your own digital stories! Use the computer to design your own stories, create and share your own animations, and learn how technology is used in the film and media industry!
Week 1: Introduction & "Check It Out" project- Students will sign up for their Scratch accounts and learn to use broadcast blocks to create their first coded story.
Week 2: Dialogue- Students will use blocks in a specific order to tell a story. They will learn how to use coding blocks to create dialogue between two characters.
Week 3: Setting- Students will learn how to use "random" blocks to make unpredictable things happen in their stories. They will also learn how to use control blocks to make things happen multiple times.
Week 4: Premise- Students will add general code blocks to their stories to develop a premise for their characters.
Week 5: Characterization- Students will use "broadcast" and "receive" blocks to add detail to their characters.
Week 6: Interactive Stories- Students will learn how to use conditionals and variables to create information for their programs. They will code an interactive story where the audience can choose a path to take.
Week 7: Personal Narrative- Students will put the skills they've learned in previous sessions to tell a story about themselves.
Week 8: Your Innovation Story- Students will use "broadcast and wait" blocks to sequence events in a story.

4th and 5th Grade Clubs
CS-First Music and Sound Make. Code. Music. Create your own digital music and sounds! Use the computer to design your own music, create your own instruments and music videos, and learn how technology is used in the music industry! Week 1: Introduction and Discovery-Students will learn the club format and learn how to control a Sprite (character) using actions from the Scripts menu. Scripts tell a character what it should look like or do.
Week 2: Dance Party- Students will learn how animation with coding works. They will learn how to switch a Sprite's costume to make it look like it's dancing to a beat of their choosing.
Week 3: Musical Art- Students will learn how tempo and chords affect the sound that comes out of each digital instrument. They will create a digital painting that interacts with people.
Week 4: Musical Talent Show- Students will create a musical talent show competition where several different Sprites display their talents when clicked or touched by the mouse.
Week 5: DJ Mixer- Students will learn how the frequency of certain sounds adds to the musical flow of a song. They will create their own DJ setup where they will mix their own songs by sampling various sounds.
Week 6: Music Video- Students will create a music video by programming Sprites to sing, dance, and play. They will learn how to make their own coding blocks to make each Sprite do something unique.
Week 7: Movie Sound Effects- Students will learn how sound effect designers reproduce everyday sounds and add them to movies to enhance soundquality. They will use sounds to give their sprites personalities. They will create sound effects to play when random objects interact, like in movies.
Week 8: Final Project-They will use everything they've learned to create a final project, and we will share our favorite projects with the rest of the class.
